[Nearly three weeks he’s spent in Luceti, and in that time, the war back home has been a constant concern on his mind. While his roles here may not matter, it’s a mentality he can’t entirely escape. Especially considering just how many from his world are here. So, with a Kazekage mentality, he opens his journal and fiddles with it until he’s figured out the video selection. Maybe one day he'll realize there's a filter option.]

To those of you who recognize me as Kazekage, I would like to address you.

[And he’ll pause for just a moment.]

I’m aware that our memories from home vary, but I believe everyone is familiar with the war that the Shinobi Alliance was currently engaged in. I cannot say that have been victorious yet, but I have faith in our abilities and our strength.

If you are curious as to the details I have before I arrived here, I will answer any questions I can. But I did want to share one thing with everyone here.

The past Hokage have arrived to support our efforts in battle, and I had the privilege of hearing the Shodai Hokage. He made a plea to all of us to bring his dreams to fruition, to bring together our pain, our sufferings, and our discouragement, to show him his dream of a time when all shinobi cooperate with each other, where their hearts are together regardless of country.

It was a proud moment when we could show him that dream come true.

I would like to believe that those effects, the promises and alliances made in such a time of trial and tribulation will not end when the threat does. And while we are far from home and that war now, as Kazekage, as Gaara of the Desert, as your friend and ally, I still hold to those beliefs and while I am here, I will protect and help in any way I am capable.

For the weeks, months, and years that have passed for some of you here, as distant a memory as the war may be in your thoughts, keep the promises and hope of it close to you.

[Having taken care of Kazekage business, he still has one more role he feels he needs to fulfill. That of a worried little brother with a sick sister. So a few moments after his speech, he adds a written note for everyone.]

For anyone with the knowledge, I would appreciate any information regarding the care of the physically ill. Methods, medications, proper foods.

Also, for possible future reference, how to properly deal with cuts and minor injuries that don’t require a medic nin or use of …white magic.

[He nods, showing the Kazekage the courtesy he's due, but this isn't the answer he was looking for. So he repeats it again.]

And those who hadn't before that. They were released?

Ah. The Edo Tensei used against us did come to an end. Madara, however, managed to overcome that bond.

Were you one of the ones risen?

I was. [Something else is more important now, however.] But... Madara?

[Itachi frowns at this, certain information having not yet been made available to him.]

If Madara was brought back by the Edo Tensei, then who is the man in the mask?

[Not having known this doesn't sit well with him.]

[The answer doesn't come immediately as Gaara considers why those would be questions Itachi would ask. It seemed not even Akatsuki was fully aware of their own organization's plans.]

Perhaps not all of this is information that should be spoken about so openly on these journals.

Of course.

I have locked this conversation now, but if that's not enough we could meet somewhere. What would you prefer?

That's a convenient feature.

This is fine. I've no problem with sharing information with you from back home, but before that, I assume you've also agreed with the peace treaty Nagato spoke about?

I have been here far longer than he has, and have made no move against anyone during that time.

Should you wish it, Naruto can vouch for me.

[Naruto. That doesn't surprise him as much as it probably should. The man does have a tendency to leave a positive effect on those that he encounters.]

I see.

I've been informed that the man in the mask who presented himself as Madara when declaring war was actually a man named Obito Uchiha.

With Madara by his side they have been an incredible source of difficulty.

[Obito? But Obito was dead. He had died when Itachi was four, and from what he'd heard of him, he'd always been a much more upbeat individual, not someone who would aid Madara with his plans.

But then, it is possible for people to change. He frowns, clearly not pleased with this information.]

I was not aware of this. I'm afraid I left before it could be made known to me.

It wasn't until we were greeted by both the Edo Tensei version of Madara and the one pretending to be him that it was revealed to us either.

[And since they're sharing information here...] Were you not aware of their plan?

I was aware of some of it, but not Obito's involvement. I have no doubt that he kept many things from me, knowing my true allegiance.

[Kabuto had some part in Madara's return, no doubt. He wonders how that skewed Obito's plans.]

[There's an arch of a brow as one of those words definitely catch his attention.]

You're true allegiance?

I was not entirely true to the heads of the organization, if it must be known. Many here are aware of it already, and continuing to press the issue after I've been here for several years seems unnecessary.

[He's quiet and contemplative for a moment before nodding slowly.] It seems Leaf is not without its secrets.

What village is?

[There's a slight frown at that. Learning that some of the Kage had used Akatsuki for their own gain, despite knowing what type of people they were, was still one of those realizations that angered him.]

Unfortunately, none. I can only hope they won't find the need for such dark ones in the future.

We would be in agreement, then.

I must say I pleasantly surprised in the sand's choice for Kazekage.

[He arches a brow at that comment, but nods. He certainly hasn't gotten the whole story, but its logical enough to piece together that if Itachi was still following orders by joining Akatsuki for Konoha, then there must have been some sort of forgiveness for the clan massacre he had heard about...or something even more. He knew how little lives meant in the search for power. And he didn't want it repeated.]

[And if that's not a surprising compliment to hear all in its self.] That I've been given this opportunity to lead my village into a new era along with new and old allied Kage is something I am grateful for. Its just unfortunate it took this war to make it happen.

If I recall correctly, you were made Kazekage before the war really began, so saying that the only reason was because of the war isn't giving yourself enough credit.

[He smiles, just slightly.] I also recall Uzumaki Naruto and his team giving Sasori and Deidara some difficulty, so the two of you must know each other.

No, but its certainly my focus at the moment. The reason they allowed me to become Kazekage...[He knew exactly why the elders gave him that position, it was a hope to use the position to control him. He was still feared, still mistrusted...] isn't really important anymore.

I've heard they fought valiantly to save me from Akatsuki. Its something I will always be grateful for.

An apology may not be enough for something like this, but you have mine.

[At that, Itachi gives a polite bow to his journal.]

[He's silent for some time. Apologies are an interesting thing. He's spent years without ever hearing one, and now this is the third one he's heard.]

I can forgive for what's been done to me. [And he tilts his head forward slightly in acknowledgement.

Its the deaths of all of the other hosts and the war that is happening in large part because of those deaths that are harder to forget.]

That you were able to be returned to life was incredibly fortunate.

Had that not been the case, I believe the whole war effort would have been worse off.

[He knows Akatsuki caused a lot of trouble. He's done all he believes he could manage to do to make some amends for it.]

[There's supposed to be some formality in taking compliments like that, but he can't help but swallow hard and give a shaky nod at the last of them. That's all he had ever wanted on a personal level, to be needed, to make an impression so that his life mattered. That he had a purpose.]

I...thank you.

[Itachi just smiles at that.]
